A Fast Pace and a Slow Death

Forgive my idle musing, but I wonder what all our modern conveniences are doing to us? Many years ago I read a book by Alvin Toffler (Future Shock). The book examines the effects of rapid industrial and technological changes upon the individual, the family, and society. Do not get me wrong, I understand and need many of our modern conveniences. Again, I cannot help wondering at what price.

We are making such fast technological advances that your cell phone that you paid top dollar today, will only be good for one, maybe two years tops. It then becomes antiquated and un-fixable. The issue is really this. What about all the product waste? See we are building faster then we can reclaim or recycle. So where is all that toxic waste going? We cannot burn it, bury it, or cast it into the sea without any long term effects.

Who could live without plastics? But plastics are not biodegradable. And it doesn't seem to be enough profit in it, so that there are numerous recycling plants. Let's not even broach the topic of fossil fuels and their byproducts.

All of us are aware of the recent tragic environment accident taking place in the Gulf. Do we stay with the traditional lifestyle or do we being to search out new methods for our future? And who is it that makes that decision, the people or our government? It seems as if technology changes quickly, but old habits regarding our way of life dies hard.

The question remains unanswered. Is our fast pace of life, causing us to die a slow death? You be the judge.

Just How Far Have We Really Come?

I ask this question fresh off the heels of our MLK Day celebration. As we look back over our Nation’s history, we see the positive strides that we have made. It would become all too easy to sit back and become complacent thinking that all is well.

Allow me to drill further into the bedrock of this issue. While laws have been passed to create equal opportunities, the question that begs to be asked is, “What is being done to change or heal the hearts of individuals?” I realize that as soon as that question is placed on the table, the immediate push back will be made that it is up to each individual. But we cannot allow our forward progress to stall out at this juncture. In other words, we must move from the mass observation down to personal involvement. The ill effects of racism still have its tentacles of bitterness embedded in the hearts of the wounded.

Where, we now may work together, there still is the observation of segregated worship if we as churches define our churches according to its ethnic makeup, rather than its theological stance. This is the self-discovery of the tentacle of covert racism that is still alive and well. It goes undetected slowly dividing people unknowingly.

The Scripture commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. This means that there is an expected action that must be demonstrated to make this a reality. In other words there has to be social intimacy among people groups as a means to understand the differences of cultures.

We must develop forums and social experiences so that we can really get to understand our differences and appreciate them. The diverse makeup of our society is what makes it so precious. Different people groups can enrich our overall perspective on life when we appreciate and celebrate our diverse makeup.

As an urban Gospel song states, “It Ain’t Over Until God Says It’s Over.”

Christian Radio/Podcasting

Radio plays an important part of our lives. As we are driving along in our cars we have our favorite program tuned and locked in. If we are able we have one playing softly at our work stations.

I recently performed a very unscientific survey, asking what (aside from music) would a listener to Christian radio want to hear. Discarding the usual UN-Christian like response, it seems to me that listeners are tried of hearing all the hype and are craving the truth. They are tried of hearing all of the denominational bashing that takes place far to often. The Bible clearly states, And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32, KJV).

Allow me to address one negative that did come out of my survey. Christian broadcasters/Pod casters seem to be accused of always begging for money. Realizing that there are those who have abused this, we all cannot be lumped into the same category. After all, programing does take money to produce a particular media. Aside from the overuse and abuse of the money, the Bible speaks to money and its related issues in some 2000 plus verses.

As Christian Broadcasters/Pod casters we are counting on you to help keep our programing on the air. It is only, for the most part, by your generous donations are we able to keep supplying the truth to you. Are some programs bias? Search for those programs which are Biblically based, and not based off of someones personal opion and support them.

I invite you to check out the folowing: http://touchingheartsandchanginglives.podbean.com &

Thanks for listening.
